  "Rhode Island Gen. & Bio" by J. H. Beers, p 1702 family one of most ancient of Rhode Island. One of very remarkable men of his day in Providence. Head of Eagle Screw Co. in 1838. United w/ another N. Eng. Co to form Am. Screw Co. in 1860. He superintended both. These made iron screws (called wood screws) used in woodwork. Learned carpenter's trade w/ father. schooling was limited. at early age developed aptitude in construction & arrangement of machinery.
