The Normandy American Cemetery is situated on a cliff over Omaha Beach, the temporary site of the American St. Laurent Cemetery, established by the US Army 8 Jun 1944, the first American cemetery on European soil in World War II. The cemetery covers over 172 acres and contains 9,387 graves. The cemetery is open to the public.
